The Final Teaching Practice for the Graduate Diploma of Education is a Designated Unit which provides the Pre-service Teacher with an opportunity to further consolidate the connection between theory and practice and build upon the experiences gained in the Professional Practice program. Typically, Pre-service Teachers will teach in both major and minor areas during this Professional Practice. The unit gives the Pre-service Teacher the opportunity for continuous teaching for a longer period of time in a more realistic situation. It provides the Pre-service Teacher with the opportunity to further acquire and refine teaching skills, and to function as an autonomous teacher. The Final Teaching Practice is a 7 week block practice where the Pre-service Teacher is required to give a full time commitment in a secondary school. All students are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice period as per the School of Education Calendar are required to adhere to the School of Education’s Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct for ECU Pre-service Teachers. A current National Criminal History Record Check (NCHRC) from the Dpertment of Education WA and a Working With Children Check (WWC) from the Department of Child Protection WA are required before Pre-service Teachers can commence this Professional Practice.
