I32 Master of Clinical Governance

The Master of Clinical Governance prepares students for the practice of clinical governance. It is based on professional values and concern for the safe delivery of health services. This Master's qualification integrates theory and practice and examines the operational issues related to maintaining standards of care, managing clinical risk, providing real accountability in clinical leadership, and managing people in the "real" context of health care. It invites those working in the health care sector to broaden their scope of understanding and knowledge in order to seek employment in this field of health care or to enhance knowledge and skills if already working in this field.  

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Standard Postgraduate entry requirements apply.

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

a) Prospective students must provide proof of completion of a health related Bachelor's Degree. The Course Coordinator maintains the right to approve all evidence for admission. Although a relevant Bachelors Degree is generally required, Registered Nurses with a hospital-based qualification leading to registration will be eligible for enrolment at the discretion of the Course Coordinator. And;

b) A certified copy of the prospective student’s proof of identity containing a photograph is required (for example a passport or driver’s license).

 

Students are required to provide a copy of the prospective student’s current Curriculum Vitae demonstrating a minimum of twelve months full-time clinical professional experience within their area of specialty.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Master of Clinical Governance consists of 180 credit points (9 units), with the potential for exit with a Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate.

 
STAGE 1
There are 3 core units for the Master of Clinical Governance which need to be completed in Stage One.
 
CPE4320 Clinical Performance and Effectiveness Core 20 
PSR4100 Patient Safety and Clinical Risk Core 20 
CPD4100 Credentialing and Professional Development Core 20 
 
At the successful completion of the three core units (60 credit points) the student may exit with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Governance.
 
STAGE 2
Stage 2 consists of 3 units.
 
MMP5101 Evidence Based Practice 20 
CCE4101 Clinical Change Management in a Complex Environment 20 
NST5158 Independent Study 20 
 
At the successful completion of the six units (120 credit points) the student may exit with a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Governance.
 
STAGE 3
MHP5101 Master Health Project 20 
MHP5202 Master Health Project 20 
CLM4100 Clinical Leadership and Management 20 
 
MHP5101 is a research proposal.
MHP5202 is a research paper.
Students are advised to enrol in MHP5101 in the semester preceding the semester they undertake MHP5202.
