MBA5706 Managing Globally and Locally
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit is designed for students with previous appropriate managerial work experience. Management is a complex and often controversial subject. Organisations both large and small need to continually innovate, challenge the traditional assumptions and be prepared to confront the status quo. Organisational leaders are being presented with a vast array of new opportunities in the ever-changing global economy. The objective of this unit is to provide an introduction to managing and explain the nature of managerial work. This will be achieved through discussion of the roles of employees, the structure of organisations and how organisations work. The unit recognises the development of major theories as well as current sustainable managerial practice; ways of understanding managing; approaches to learning about managing and the nature of managerial work such as planning, organising, leading and controlling. The unit will also critically examine management for sustainability, management of the environment and the structural control of organisations, as well as the manager’s roles and activities that ensure future sustainability for the organisation and the community.
