G46 Bachelor of Arts (Jazz)

INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Arts (Jazz) program is designed to provide students with performance skills in jazz and jazz related music.  The course offers the student the opportunity to broaden and diversify their skills in the third year.  By offering a course of study that provides access to the general minor program available through the university the student can enhance their musical profile.

Grade point averages in seminal units as applied to the Bachelor of Music (Jazz) program do not apply in the Bachelor of Arts program and students will not be expected to give a public performance recital at the end of their third year.  However students in the Bachelor of Arts (Jazz) course are able to transfer to the Bachelor of Music (Jazz) course at the end of their second year of study, in which case grade point averages in seminal units would need to be met to enter the third year.

STUDY MODE

It is not envisaged that this course will be offered in the part-time mode, but there will be provision for students attending other institutions to be included in the practical experiences within the course such as orchestral performances and associated activities.

AUDITION AND INTERVIEW REQUIREMENTS

Prospective students must apply to the Academy Admissions Officer to arrange for auditions and interviews which are normally held in November-December.  Applicants are assessed on successful completion of a practical test on the applicant’s chosen instrument or in voice.

Suggested level of performance: AMEB Grade VII Practical and Grade VI Theory (or equivalent).

Information on audition requirements and procedures is available from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
