Description:
This unit is intended to provide students with understanding of and practice in employing some widely recognised approaches to the analysis of discourse (spoken and written) and of meanings (i.e. semantics). It surveys a comprehensive range of linguistic approaches to discourse study and their applications to various genres. Techniques of semantic analysis are considered in relation to all linguistic levels and to a range of contextual factors.
