A54 Certificate II in Dance

This accredited course provides the career-minded dance student with specialised training in ballet and contemporary dance to complement intensive studies undertaken in private studios. It allows the student to work at a high level of achievement in dance while continuing formal secondary schooling. Ballet classes include specialist work in floor barre, barre, centre practice and alignment. Contemporary dance classes develop an increased vocabulary through floorwork, technical combinations and compositional elements. The Certificate program is designed for those students who intend to audition for tertiary dance programs.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants apply directly to WAAPA.

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission is based on audition. Normally students who audition for the Certificate must have passed the Elementary RAD or equivalent. Male students are encouraged to apply for audition if they have a lower level of dance training but experience in related areas such as gymnastics. Information relating to audition requirements and procedures is available from WAAPA. A medical clearance certificate may be required.

Each year students take two sessions per week.
 
COURSE STRUCTURE

Training and delivery are designed to reflect and meet the needs of the dance industry.

Details of the specific delivery arrangement for each unit of competence are available from the relevant Course Coordinator or the Program Director.
