G58 Master of Environmental Management and Practice

The Master of Environmental Management & Practice course provides opportunities for professionals who have graduated with a natural resource management and environmental science/management degree to add to their qualifications and experience by extending their knowledge in environmental management.  The course is designed for professionals who require the skills and knowledge to integrate environmental planning, environmental management systems and monitoring into the broader decision-making of their organisations.  The course covers the areas of environmental management systems, environmental impact assessment, planning and monitoring set in the context of our major ecosystems, and emphasises the global, regional and local nature of environmental issues.

 

Note: the Graduate Diploma and the Graduate Certificate are also exit points for the Master of Environmental Management & Practice.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Normal admission requirement is a degree in biological/environmental science, natural resource management or environmental management.  In addition, entry to Stage 3 normally requires at least 12 months’ workforce experience.

 

Students must have access to a computer capable of accessing the Internet, and CDROM technology.

 

MODE OF DELIVERY

The course will be offered in external mode only.  Delivery will be via materials delivered largely on-line or on CDROM.

 

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course is a professional Master degree consisting of 180 credit points (nine units), which can be completed over three semesters full-time or equivalent part-time study. The units are as follows:

 
STAGE 1
SCI5127 Environmental Monitoring&Investigation 20 
SCI5128 Environmental Management Systems&Auditing 20 
SCI5129 Environmental Planning Principles and Practice 20 
 
Students who satisfactorily complete all three units may exit at this point with a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management and Practice, or elect to continue on to Stage 2, the Graduate Diploma.
 
STAGE 2
SCI5130 Environmental Impact Assessment Practice 20 
SCI5133 Environmental and Health Risk Assessment 20 
Plus one Elective unit
 
Students who satisfactorily complete all six units may exit at this point with a Graduate Diploma in Environmental Management and Practice, or elect to continue on to Stage 3.
 
STAGE 3
SCI5261 Research in Environmental Management 1 20 
SCI5105 Catchment Health * 20 
Plus one Elective unit
