I23 Master of Professional Accounting

The Master of Professional Accounting  is designed to provide an opportunity for graduates whose first degree is in an area other than accounting to undertake major studies in accounting and law that will lead to the acquisition of accounting skills and knowledge and the fulfilment of the entry requirements of the accounting professional bodies. The course has been accredited by the CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the National Institute of Accountants as meeting the educational requirements for membership.

 

The course may be completed in eighteen months (three semesters) full-time study or three years (six semesters) part-time study. 

 

Students who do not have a recognised undergraduate degree but have a qualification recognised as equivalent to an Australian Advanced Diploma are advised to apply for the Master of Professional Accounting (Extended) course.

 

Students who are required to complete eight or less than eight units for accounting professional body recognition may apply for either the Graduate Diploma of Business (Professional Accounting) course or the Graduate Certificate of Business (Professional Accounting) course as appropriate for their requirements.

 
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Australian students require completion of an approved undergraduate degree in a discipline other than accounting and overseas students require completion of an approved undergraduate degree recognised under NOOSR guidelines as equivalent to an Australian undergraduate degree.

This course is available on Mt Lawley Campus.

This course is available by Full-time, or Part-time mode.
 
MODE OF DELIVERY
This course is available in the following modes of delivery - On-campus, and Online.

(All required units are offered online, except for ENG5230 and BES5100. Hence external students have options to either take ENG5230 and/or BES5100 on-campus or substitute them with other postgraduate units that are offered online with approval from the Course Coordinator).

Students are required to complete 180 credit points (12 units) from in the following list.

ACC5603 Accounting for Planning and Control 15
ACC5604 Auditing 15
ACC5605 Accounting Theory and Practice 15
ECF5600 Principles of Economics 15
ECF5661 Quantitative Studies 15
ECF5220 Principles of Finance 15
BES5100 Foundations of Business Knowledge 15
ENG5230 Business Communication 15
LAW5300 Taxation Law 15
LAW5500 Business Environment of Corporate Law 15
 
Students of English-speaking background or those with IELTS 7 or above, with approval from the Course Coordinator, may substitute ENG5230 with one elective unit from the following list.
ACC5640 International Accounting 15
ACC5650 Contemporary Issues in Sustainability Accounting 15
ACC5655 Advanced Strategic Management Accounting 15

Students with extensive work experience, with approval from the Course Coordinator, may substitute BES5100 with one elective unit from the elective list above.
Students who have completed BES1100 must substitute BES5100 with another unit from the elective list above.
 


Students who are unable to complete the course and have completed 120 credit points (8 units) from the units listed above may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Diploma of Business (Professional Accounting) with Course Coordinator approval.

OR

Students who are unable to complete the course and have completed 60 credit points (4 units) from the units listed above may be eligible to exit with a Graduate Certificate of Business (Professional Accounting) with Course Coordinator approval.
