Description:
This unit offers an introduction to social research methods relating to children and their families, communities and the services used by them to meet their needs. The unit focuses on families in community and cultural contexts. It examines varying ideologies of families and how these ideologies impact on family members' roles and their ability to rear children. It also examines a range of family-centred issues such as violence in the home, the rights of children. Family policy will be discussed; its ideological base and the impact it has on families will be examined.
