JUS3131 Commercial and Organised Crime

Description:
In this unit students' attention is redirected from the traditional range of offenders to the sophisticated white collar and organised criminal. The theories relating to commercial and organised crime will be discussed. Students will be introduced to issues relating to the impact of commercial and organised crime on the integrity of our institutions and society; the hidden costs and internationalisation of commercial and organised crime; conflict of international law and interest and the future and detection of commercial and organised crime. A comparison will be made with commercial and organised crimes committed in different environments around the world. Australia is fairly new in this area therefore experiences of other nationals will be analysed. Legislation against commercial and organised crime will be analysed critically.
