Description:

This unit seeks to provide an account of the historical development of Islam and Islamic civilisation. It is designed to provide an opportunity to better understand Islam in the modern world and to promote an awareness and appreciation of the Islamic way of living. The main focus is a general introduction to the theological and philosophical basis for Islamic society. Among the topics to be addressed are the Islamic notions and forms of government, politics, economics, environmental issues, the family. The variety of artistic expressions, the contribution of Islamic civilisation to the world and the relations with the West will also be explored.
