HIS3137 Contested Identities: Australia and its Region

Description:

This unit considers the history and identities of peoples who inhabit the Australian continent and islands in the Pacific and to the north of Australia. It analyses how peoples in this region identified themselves prior to a European presence, and how these identities have changed under the influence of trade, missionaries, colonisation, migration and globalisation. The development of national identities and their reflection in popular culture and sport in the region is investigated.
